BET Music Matters Artist Steve Lovell born Stephen Lovell Mclean is a 24-year-old dynamic singer as well as an aspiring songwriter. Steve has an amazing ability to combine the vocal stylings and sounds of the greats Luther Vandross, Donny Hathaway and Whitney Houston with that of Soul singer Bilal into an incredibly smooth and unmatchable soul stirring sound of his own. From the day he was born to his parents, both of them knew their son was destined to be an entertainer.
While attending Performing Arts schools his entire education, Steve has not only grown as a vocalist and musician, but these schools have helped him keep his passion and dedication to his music a top priority. Steve’s vast musical experiences include opening for Grammy Award winning R&B artist Chrisette Michele, Dr. Maya Angelou, Dianne Reeves, McCoy Tyner, and Savion Glover at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC),became a finalist at the Andre Harrell’s ‘Superstar Soul Search’ Competition in Philadelphia, performed at NYC’s Sugar Bar, SOB’s “Sol Village”, hosted by R&B Soul artist Eric Roberson, singing background for R&B singer Jennifer Holiday and sharing the stage with Gospel singers Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin, Vickie Winans, and Byron Cage at the McDonald’s Gospel Fest. Interview With Metrell Hurst

1. Hello Metrell can you tell me about yourself?
My name is Metrell Hurst. I am from a little small town of Athens, Tn about 30 minutes from Chattanooga, TN in which i tell everyone i am from. I actually moved to NYC for modeling and music, although i did my share of modeling i choose to focus more on my heart, which is my music. I write my own material, but i also love working with other artist. When two or more come together there is a lot of magic that can happen.

2. Who are your musical influences?
Oh. I love Sam Cooke, Donnie Hathaway, Anthony Hamilton (who i often get compared to), I love Tank and not just his music but his writing. He is easily one of the most underrated artist i know. I also love Sean Garrett his writing is just amazing, and i am inspired my him. Brian Michael Cox and Rodney Jenkins two amazing song writers i would love to work with. I also love Luke James and Frank Ocean their styles and writing is very similar to my own. Frank can be a little deep at times but he can also bring what love really is out. Luke is smooth and can make you feel what he is singing or writing about its pretty amazing.

3. What type of sound of music do you do?
I have a R&B/Soul style I am not pop and i don't try to be. I am influenced by Gospel because that's where i started, so you will hear a lot of gospel influences in my music.
4. When did you in love with music?
I think music fell in love with me before i even knew what it was. I came out the wound singing and screaming before i realized what a note was. Then at the age of 5 i asked to sing in the choir. At the age of 15 i got into writing and that's really where i fell hard for music. Nothing like creating your own music. Its a way to tell your story when you cant seem to tell it any other way.
5.Anything new coming up with you?
Absolutely!! I have a single out right now, a duet with Damien Crawford titled 'I Can Do Better" which is on Itunes, Rhapsody, Emusic, Amazon, Spotify, Google Play, etc.. Now!! So, make sure you guys go get that! My new single "Who I Am" will be release soon. So look out for that. It attacks Abusive Relationships, Molestation, Rape, Bullying, anybody that every felt like they weren't enough. I also have a EP coming out at the end of this year or the beginning of next year "Reflections". Reflections is that type of album that really tells the story without holding anything back. Its the story of my life. I am taking my story and putting it into a musical layout. Admitting fault and knowing when i wasn't at fault. Writing about my pain was tough but writing about the pain that i caused was tougher. Putting myself in someone Else's shoes was hard. Specially because i was there but maturity is humbling yourself to realize and feel there pain as well. So, that's what i tried to do on the album. Let me tell you everything will be able to speak to you. I promise anyone is going to be able to relate to at least on track off of Reflections.

6.What is the sexiest thing about yourself?

Oh, this is easy. My personality!! Hands down! Look, there is a cute guy every where, there is a nice body every where. If you have a forgettable personality its not a good look. One thing i can definitely say about myself is personality speaks through any look that i may have about myself period and that's the sexiest thing about me. People think I'm this stuck up, cocky guy, that's full of myself before they even meet me. Then once they meet me its a completely different story. I am nice guy, who loves to have a good time and who can talk to anyone no matter what they look like! Unless, your just that person that just annoys the hell out of me, then I'm just over it!

7. Desribe who you are musically?
Musically I'm a honest note, with a smooth melody, and a pleasant tone. I'm vulnerable, and authentic, open yet honest. I make you feel love and pain at the same time. I can make you smile and cry in one song. Musically i am you, you are me. Because this is who i write about. I am inspired by everything and everyone. Every emotion of every feeling. Musically i try to be all of everything.
8.Has there ever been a time you wanted to give up?
Look i have been through a lot in my life. There has been several times i just wanted to give up and stop trying. But, that's not who i am. I am not a quitter i am a fighter. I have been fighting all my life and the moment i stop, its not worth living. Fight for love, fight for a chance, fight for what you believe in. Its being motivated, determined to just make it. The moment that person that told you that you won't amount to anything can say, "I'm proud of what you become", the fight was worth it. The moment the person that broke your heart tells you, "I'm happy for you, you deserve the best, or I'm glad to see that someone can love you the way i couldn't", the fight was worth it. For every no you got came the yes that changed your life, The fight is worth it.
9. Who would you love to calab with?
You know honestly i don't know. Its just one of those things that would just happen. I collaborated with Damien Crawford already and that was amazing, the two of us wrote an amazing song "I Can Do Better". I'm honestly not sure who i would like to colab with next, I'm open to work with actually anyone that has a gift and is passionate about there craft.
10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years i hoped to be signed, on the charts. Grammy nominations and/or awards. Respected for my music and my writing. Reaching tons of people in such a positive manner you can't help but support what i stand for.
   11. Describe  a day in your life?
Wow, busy! I have my regular job, and then i train clients, workout myself, depending on the day, I'll have writing sessions and studio sessions. Then head home to cook and spend time with my baby!

12. Looks, Body, Voice or love which would you rather have?

Let me tell you something.. Looks, a body, and a voice will all fade away. If you don't have love at the end of the day its not important! People walk around mad at love because they were hurt, move on get over it find someone that really cares for you and wants to love you. Everyone is not out there to hurt you, somebody wants to love you. Let them love you!!!

Artist Spotlight on Centriq

Taleek- What Music artist inspires you?
Centriq- I’m an 80's baby ... so I was inspired by many artists of the 90's ... like MJ, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Usher, Biggie Smalls, Wu Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Jay Z, TLC, the list goes on and on lol
Taleek- Tell everyone about yourself?
Centriq- OK WELL I WAS BORN ON AUGUST 23 1985 IN BRONX NY ... MY ARTIST NAME IS 'CENTRIQ' ...I'VE BEEN WRITING AND PERFORMING SINCE I WAS 5 YEARS OLD I DON'T ONLY DO MUSIC ... I'M ALSO AN ACTOR, DANCER, AND ADVOCATE FOR THE LGBT YOUTH I'M A FIRM BELIEVER IN KEEPING IT REAL ... SO I LIKE FOR MY FOLLOWERS AND FANS TO KNOW THAT I WORK A 9 TO 5 JOB JUST LIKE THEM TO MAKE ENDS MEET, I GET LONELY, DEPRESSED, SAD AND ANGRY JUST LIKE THEM ... I'VE HAD MY SHARE OF PROBLEMS WITH RELATIONSHIPS, ETC. I AM OPENLY BISEXUAL ... COMING OUT TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS WAS A STRUGGLE BUT A BLESSING AT THE SAME TIME
Taleek- What is your musical direction?
Centriq- I want to make music that is relatable to EVERYONE ... Men, Women, Straight, Gay, Black, White, Spanish, etc. I RAP, SING, WRITE AND CO PRODUCE ALL OF MY OWN SONGS, So it gives me the opportunity to do what I want to do with my music ... I like making music that speaks on serious issues but still makes you want dance.

Taleek- When can we except to a EP or a Album from you?
Centriq- DEFINITELY A FULL EP BY EARLY NEXT YEAR ... BUT YOU'LL HEAR SOME NEW SONGS BEFORE THEN ... I just recently posted a snippet of one of my new songs called "Make Me Wanna" on my You Tube page ... www.youtube.com/centriq

Centriq- Right now I would have to say both, I’m young and just having fun ... I’ll commit later on down the line lol

Taleek- What happened with BFAM?
Centriq- WELL MYSELF AND WESLEY HAD A FEW DIFFERENCES ... I DID NOT THINK THAT BFAM, AS POPULAR AS IT WAS AND STILL IS WOULD HAVE AFFECTED THE CLOSE FRIENDSHIP THAT WE SHARED BUT SADLY IT DID ... SO I, NOT WESLEY, DECIDED NOT TO RETURN TO THE WEB SERIES, HOWEVER I LOVE AND APPRECIATE THE FRIENDSHIP WE ONCE SHARED ... AND I WISH HIM ALL THE BEST

Centriq- I WOULD LOVE TO WORK WITH MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS, FRANK OCEAN, BRYN'T, LADY GAGA, BRANDY, AND NICKI MINAJ

Taleek- What’s the most thing u ever done that you are proud of you?
Centriq- The most recent thing that I’ve done that I’m proud of would have to be my decision to move out of NY ... I was nervous about it because NY is where I was born and raised but I didn’t allow fear to hold me back and since moving to the South I discovered so many things about myself that I never knew existed ... my faith is stronger ... my talent is improving ... it’s like I had an awakening and now that I have networked and made new connections I realize that I can still make my dreams become a reality even though I’m not in NY ... which is what held me back before ... I thought NY was the only place where I can do music, but I was wrong

Taleek- Love fame or fortune choose one and why?
Centriq- Can I say all three? LOL NAH ... I would have to say LOVE ... without it you have nothing ... fame and fortune comes and goes and when you no longer exist on this earth ... love is what will get you into heaven ... not fame nor fortune

Taleek- Where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years?
Centriq- In 5 years I hope and pray that I can just do music full time ... I want to be earning enough to take care of my family and friends and continue to help and inspire others
